Welcome To The Vintage Football League

Fantasy Football

The Vintage Football League began as a fantasy football league that combined the fun of watching NFL football and playing Nintendo 64’s NFL Quarterback Club 99.

It all started in 2002 when my neighbor’s daughter received a Playstation for Christmas.  Soon she had grown tired of her Nintendo 64 and decided to give it to my son.  He was very happy with it, but he wanted me to play the video games with him.  The Mario Kart was fun, but I could have cared less about the other ones we had.  So, we decided to get some new games.

Since I am a big fan of the NFL, we decided to get a football game.  We bought the NFL Quarterback Club 99 and learned you could create your own players and play an entire season.  So, that is just what we did!

In 2006, the Vintage Football League was moved to the Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football system and some of the owners left the front office to manage their teams.

Here is how it works:

  • Each owner chooses a VFL team before the season starts.
  • Each owner receives players from their corresponding NFL team.
  • The teams compete head-to-head during a regular season to qualify for a 3-week playoff.
  • Managers are allowed to modify their rosters after the season starts.
  • The owner whose team wins the VFL Super Bowl gets a prize.

VFL Rulebook

Regular Season Rules:

  1. Teams must always have at least 50% of their roster from their corresponding NFL team.
  2. Teams must start at least 50% of their players from their corresponding NFL team (unless the team is on a bye week).
  3. Free Agents from owned teams can only be received by trade.

Regular Season Penalties:

  1. Illegal Formation:  Top Scoring Player will be benched each week until balance is restored.
  2. False Start:  Top Scoring Non-team Players will be benched and replaced with Lowest Scoring Team Players from corresponding position until balance is restored.
  3. Ineligible Receiver:  Free Agent will be dropped when discovered.

Playoff Rules:

  1. Managers can change the roster for one team in the Championship bracket during the playoffs.
  2. The team is chosen by the following priority:
    1. The manager's owned team
    2. A manager's non-owned team with the highest playoff seed
  3. The regular season rules still apply during the playoffs.
