2003 Scores

VFL NEWS

Vintage Football League

Sunday, July 9, 2003

You are cordially invited to join a re-enactment of the 1998 NFL football year.

The season will be simulated by the Anderson's Nintendo 64 game system during the same time frame as this year's NFL schedule. It will be solely for entertainment purposes and have no bearing on the far more important (and far more difficult) SPAM pool. Your involvement can be as simple as just picking your favorite team and letting the CPU do the rest.

Here is the schedule:

  • By July 19, 2003 - Pick your favorite team (first come, first served)

Optional features:

  • By July 19, 2003 - Create a personalized player
  • Anytime - Trade players

Since the season is based on 1998, all teams and players are from that time.

Week 5 - Vintage Power Rankings

  1. Da Bears! (5-0) ...One of their weaker efforts still crushed the Lions, and it only gets easier with ARI this week.
  2. Miami (4-0) ... No rust from their bye week, and they should continue to roll in JAX.
  3. New England (4-0) ... This week we find out if KC is for real as 2 unbeatens go head to head.
  4. San Francisco (4-0) ... They gave up the yards against BUF but not the points, and they'll do the same in NO.
  5. Green Bay (4-1) ... A well-deserved week of rest for a team that is spinning straw into green and gold.
  6. NY Giants (3-2) ... Their high-powered offense is keeping them nipping at the Cowboys' heels.
  7. Minnesota (2-3) ... Maybe they can use the bye week to plug the holes on defense.
  8. Denver (2-3) ... Losing at home hurts, now we'll see if they can turn it around in SEA.
  9. NY Jets (1-3) ... If they had an offense, this team could be dangerous.

  1. New England (5-0, last week: 3)...They lit up the skies against KC; bring on the Jets
  2. Da Bears! (6-0, last week: 1)...They have only beated one team who is above .500 (so far); DAL will be a real test.
  3. Miami (5-0, last week: 2)...JAX revealed some holes in their run defense, but the offense and special teams are rolling.
  4. San Francisco (5-0, last week: 4)...An improving offense is keeping them on the winning track.
  5. Green Bay (4-1, last week: 5)...The bye week only cost them a half game to CHI.
  6. Denver (3-3, last week: 8) ...A good week in SEA pulls them back into 2nd in the AFC West.
  7. NY Giants (3-3, last week: 6)...Their offense stalled and the defense isn't stopping anyone.
  8. NY Jets (2-3, last week: 9)...They found enough offense to get past STL; this week they'll need more in NE.

  1. Miami (6-0, last week: 3)...The fins are back on top. It is hard to believe they had to come from behind against STL.
  2. Da Bears! (7-0, last week: 2)...DAL slowed them down, but these aren't the Cubs and they didn't choke.
  3. Green Bay (5-1, last week: 5)...Their offense is still improving but they may have to wait til CHI's bye week to gain any ground.
  4. New England (5-1, last week: 1)...Ouch! Losing to NYJ at home has got to hurt. Maybe they were looking ahead to MIA. Yikes!
  5. San Francisco (5-1, last week: 4)...I guess someone forgot to tell their run game to show up. Don't forget to bring it to STL.
  6. New York Jets (3-3, last week: 8) ...I told you this team could be dangerous! Can they keep it going against ATL?
  7. Denver (3-3, last week: 6)...With half of our teams losing this week, maybe it was a good time for their bye.
  8. New York Giants (3-4, last week: 7)...Losing 2 in a row at home was not how they wanted to go into their bye week.
  9. Minnesota (2-4, last week: 9)...They didn't quite get things fixed over their break

  6. New York Jets (4-3, last week: 6)...3 in a row! Can they make it 4 in KC? Maybe, if they get those turnovers.
  7. Denver (4-3, last week: 7)...Their defense is improving and they will need it to catch KC.

  3. San Francisco (7-1, last week: 4)...Who needs to pass when you have Sanders and Bettis?
  4. Green Bay (6-2, last week: 3)...Ok, they are not better than SF yet, maybe they can practice run defense in PIT.
  5. Denver (5-3, last week: 7)...They are still winning with defense which should be enough to beat SD.
  6. New England (5-3, last week: 5)...3 straight losses has dropped them from 1 to 6 in the rankings.
